Style Dictator #3 - Sapurmurat Niyazov

Style Dictator: Sapurmurat Niyazov

I don't know if you are familiar with my fascination with dictators and tyrants. But well - I am. And one of my favorite things about them is the fact that they are almost always very stylish. They have a style and they keep with it - be it military or colorful - they do not follow trends. They set the trends.

I have already made something like this for Kim Jong Un and for Fidel Castro and now it was time for my favorite:

Sapurmurat Niyazov

Mr Niyazov was the president (for life) of Turkmenistan from 1990 til his death in 2006. And he had some funny ideas. For example - he made life size statues of himself that rotates 360 degrees so that he will always face the sun. He shut down all libraries because he considered that the only books worth reading are the Koran and the book he wrote himself. He renamed the months and the days of the week after himself and Turkmen heroes. He shut down all hospitals outside of the capital because well - if you're ill you should just come to the capital. He banned dogs from the capital because they stink you know. He built an ice skating rink in the desert so that people could learn to skate. He banned lip-syncing, long hair and beard on men and gold teeth. Among other things.

And this isn't all! Just... read his wikipedia site. And succumb to the style and power of this dictator.

Now, who's your "favorite" dictator?
