5 reasons why you should go see Spring Breakers

Spring Breakers came out here in France last week, it comes out in NYC and LA on the 15th and nationwide in the US on March 22nd. So for once we had a head start and I can tell all you on the other side of the Atlantic why you should go see this movie.

This movie is rated R in the US and in France you can see it if you are over 12. Wonder what that says about these countries... however I do not think you should see this if you are 12.

1. The Visuals

This movie is like a very long music video. There are colored lights everywhere, half naked women dancing in slow motion, fast editing of drugs and money. Everything is ridiculously cool/beautiful. Some might find it annoying but I consider it innovative. A perfect reflection of the movie's theme.

2. James Franco

James Franco manages to be sexy and revolting in a way I thought only Gary Oldman could be. He is the rapping gangster maniac Alien who takes the girls under his wings after their fall in with the law to "protect" them.
I don't know if Franco is improvising or if he is reading from a script but either way he is glowing! He has got some crazy ass lines in this and he also has a piano by a pool by the sea. How badass isn't that?
Alien is probably the best anti-hero since Snape (or any other Alan Rickman role) do not miss Franco's best part this far.

3. THE Scene
Harmony Korin has come up with THE most amazing scene I have ever seen. Maybe it's a generational thing but it is just too good to be true. I don't want to give away too much but it has to do with guns & Britney Spears.

4. Selena Gomez

There is a reason why "well developed characters" aren't on this list, but Selena Gomez's character Faith is the exception.
Faith is the only one of the four girls who actually has a back story and motivation. She is the only one we understand and we cling on to her like a chimpanzee baby clings to its mom.
Now this might come as a surprise to you, but Selena Gomez is a really good actress. She delivers, and shreds the Disney image with conviction and style. I do think however that she was the only one of the girls that Korin actually worked with. Because the other three are just blank stereotypes of themselves.

5. You have NEVER seen anything like this before

Seriously. I don't think anyone has ever done this before and even if you won't like the film it is worth seeing. The editing and the visuals are new and inspiring and will probably open a few doors to many other young directors with a similar vision.

It also has a wonderful way of showing the ugly sides of USA while disguising them as pretty. You think you are watching just another teen movie but as time goes you realize this is so much more.
