Things I Love Thursday: Musée d'Orsay

I have lived in Paris for now almost three years. And I haven't been to le Musée d'Orsay until today. Crazy!

I have wanted to go this museum since I was a kid. You see in Sweden there is this movie called Linnea i Målarens Trädgård (Linnea in Monet's Garden) about a little girl going to this museum and then to Monet's garden in Giverny. I, as most young Swedes, saw this movie as a child and I have had Monet's paintings in my head for about 15 years. So it was about time to go see the real paintings.

Musée d'Orsay used to be a train station but was put out of use in 1939, after that it was used a film set (Orson Welles filmed The Trial here) and then it just stood there for a number of years until they decided what to do with it. It opened its doors as a museum in July 1986. It contains occidental art created between 1848 til 1914. So a lot of Impressionism and romantic statues.

I made a pinterest board with the paintings that touched me the most; a lot of Monet and other impressionists. I will definitely be back. And if I'll get more days off in the future (times they are a changing) I might spend some more time in other museums.

Other things I love today
black tea with vanilla and hazelnuts | Paris by night | improvisational theatre | getting Swedish food from IKEA | watching Sherlock | my boyfriend | having days off | eating too much with my bestie | staying inside when it's cold | baking bread | texts from wonderful friends | failing at Ruzzle | Claude Monet | moose sausage | The Strokes | Skyping with mom and dad | texts from my sister
