"There are a lot of people in this world who are afraid of caring. Or afraid of showing that they care because it's uncool. It's uncool to have passion."This is what Tom Hiddleston answered when a fan asked for advice for someone who wants to be an actor.
And he continues:
"It's so much easier to lose when you have shown everyone how much you don't care if you win or lose. It's much harder to lose when you show that you care. But you'll never win unless you also stand to lose. And also - I've said it before - don't be afraid of your passion."
I know a lot of creative people. And one of the biggest fears among creative people is to fail. To show a piece of your inner self to the world and to see the world trample all over it.
But that is not failure.
Failure is... not permitting yourself to be excited
Failure is... not letting your personality shine through every piece of art you make
Failure is... not loving what you do
Failure is... hiding behind fake cynicism
Failure is... not being true to yourself
Failure is... making something easy instead of doing something you care about
Because if you create something that is true to yourself and that you care about you will do it better. And even if you do not get the commercial success you wished for you will be proud in the end. Because you have spent your time and energy on something that you care about. And then you can never fail.
And then you can never fail.
Think about that.
